Anna Shaughnessy Joins IHRDC as Director, Geosciences e-Learning

IHRDC announces the appointment of Anna Shaughnessy as Director of Geosciences e-Learning.

BOSTON: January 7, 2010 – International Human Resources Development Corporation (IHRDC) today announced the appointment of Anna Shaughnessy as Director of Geosciences e-Learning.   Shaughnessy will concentrate on the development of Action Learning in Petroleum Exploration. Action Learning is a component of IHRDC’s widely used International Petroleum Industry Multimedia System (IPIMS) e-Learning system which simulates on-the-job training through a series of interactive Learning Plans that are built around industry-defined competencies, virtual job assignments, actual field data and realistic work situations.

“We are delighted to have Anna on our team.  Anna’s expertise in the geosciences, combined with her extensive management experience in the oil and gas industry, is a perfect fit to lead development efforts as we continue to grow and enhance IPIMS, “said Dr. David Donohue, founder and President of IHRDC.

Shaughnessy has 30 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry. She started her career in 1980 as a geophysicist for Mobil Oil. Since then she has worked for Saudi Aramco, Texaco, Kerr-McGee and Anadarko Petroleum in increasingly challenging assignments. Ms. Shaughnessy was Assistant to the President of Worldwide Exploration for Texaco and subsequently became Exploration Manager for Asia and Australia. She then moved to Kerr-McGee where she held the position of Exploration Manager for Australia, Brazil and Nova Scotia. In addition to her experience in exploration, she has held assignments in other parts of the upstream value chain including Research, Business Improvement and Strategic Planning.

“I look forward to taking my experience in Petroleum Exploration to the medium of e-Learning. The idea that we will be able to assist geoscientists around the world to grow in their careers by learning at their desks is a very rewarding thought.”

Ms. Shaughnessy holds a B.S. in Oceanography from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and a M.S. in Oceanography/Marine geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a member of both the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) since 1980 and currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the SEG.
