BOSTON: January 12, 2010 – International Human Resources Development Corporation (IHRDC) today announced the appointment of Dan Shaughnessy as Director of Geosciences.  Shaughnessy will concentrate on strengthening the geosciences content in IHRDC’s International Petroleum Industry Multimedia System (IPIMS). He will also help develop Action Learning in Petroleum Exploration.  Action Learning is a component of IHRDC’s IPIMS e-Learning system which simulates on-the-job training through a series of interactive Learning Plans that are built around industry-defined competencies, virtual job assignments, actual field data and realistic work situations.

“We are very happy to have Dan join our team.  Dan’s strong technical background in the Geosciences, combined with his extensive hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, is a perfect fit to enable us to grow and enhance the Geosciences content of IPIMS”, said Dr. David Donohue, Founder and President of IHRDC.

Dan Shaughnessy has over 38 years of experience in geosciences, 30 years of which are in Upstream Oil and Gas.  Dan started his career at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the multi-channel seismic group.  He then joined Mobil Oil Corp. as a geophysicist for the next 13 years.  In 1993 he started his own consulting company specializing in 3-D seismic interpretation and sequence stratigraphy projects.  A team leader for many multidisciplinary projects he is familiar with five broad disciplines: petroleum engineering, petrophysics, petrology, paleontology, and geology.

“I benefitted greatly from using IHRDC training videos when I started my career as a geoscientist. It is exciting to realize that we now can provide a far superior product through interactive e-Learning.  I look forward to developing exciting training scenarios for Geoscientists around the globe as well as enhancing IHRDC’s existing geosciences programs.”

During his career, Mr. Shaughnessy has evaluated hundreds of prospects, completed 15 sequence stratigraphy projects, and participated in 32 field studies.  These projects have led to discoveries on five continents and over 50 producing wells.  Dan Shaughnessy received his B.S. in Geology from Lawrence University.
